Welcome to our fun and happy P6/7 classroom!  We like to focus on the children's thinking skills, developing their independence, social skills and resilience.  We do this through being purposeful and active through the day with a varied, individualised curriculum and approach to learning.  We have a positive ethos in our room and use positive behaviour management strategies to ensure everyone feels appreciated, listened to, secure and happy through their day. We want children to aim to fulfil their potential in all areas possible, academically, socially and emotionally.

February Hilights

We have had such an exciting month beginning with our annual bring and buy sale where we got lots of bargains and raised money for the school. We have also had some great trips to a Boccia competition in Antrim and the Folk Museum where we went to a Victorian school. Everyone is loving our swimming lessons too!

September

We have had such a lovely month, bonding as a new class and helping everyone to settle and get used to their new classroom. We have enjoyed lots of getting to know each other activities and looking at ways to be happy at school. We began by starting a mini topic on autumn and then moved onto work about celebrations. The children visited Mount Stewart on the Wednesday bus to look for signs of autumn. They also began new routines like phonics actives, learning spellings and going to Donaghadee library which everyone loves. It was so much fun to have a back to school fun day as well!

October Highlights

October has been a lovely month. In our topic work we have been learning about Harvest and our class sang “The Harvest Samba,” in our harvest festival. The fire safety officers came in to see us at school. We made chocolate muffins in cooking and then spider biscuits in class. We have been looking at the book, “Funnybones” and writing our own, patterned stories as well as re-writing the story as a comic strip. Everyone enjoyed our Halloween celebrations and our Halloween break and disco.

November Hilights

We had a busy month and carried on with our topic on Celebrations. We studied Remembrance Day and made poppies and lay a wreath at the war memorial in Donaghadee. Everyone enjoys cooking and we made shortbread as a class. As we had our Wednesday bus trip, we went to Poundland in Bloomfields to buy Christmas presents for some of our families. We will wrap them up next month! One of our hilights was Children in Need and doing fun activities for Pudsey Day.

December Hilights

What a great month December has been! All the classes decorated our doors and ours was a Prime bottle. We learnt about the Christmas story and did some lovely Christmas crafts such as making photo frames, decorations and cards. We wrapped presents for our families. The Killard secondary school did a Panto which was very funny to watch. We really enjoyed having a party with P4/5 and had food and games. As an end of term treat we had an inflatable snow globe in the hall which was so much fun, as well as seeing Santa.

January Hi-Light

What a fun month January has been. We started music with Mrs McManus which has been great. Everyone enjoyed some bright snow days. We have started a new topic all about the Victorians. We began by looking at our Royal Family and then Queen Victoria. We have been following a programme called Maggie’s diary all about a girl their age growing up in Victorian times. 
We also started swimming lessons at a local leisure centre which has encouraged children to start their own swimming lessons. We have carried on our weekly library visits and cooking. 

March Hilights

March has been a lot of fun in school and as well as carrying on our amazing topic on the Victorians, we have had a lot of extra things. The children had world book day, swimming, St. Patrick”s day, Tag Rugby and a Bee Safe Event at Ards Arena. It has been such a busy but wonderful time and it all culminated in an Easter performance for the parents which was amazing. It is so rewarding to see how the children are developing in every area, socially, emotionally and academically. It is a joy to teach them!

Amazing April

April has been an amazing month. It is lovely to see the better weather and with it, some changes. Our P7 children have got their leavers hoodies and they look so grown up. We have celebrated more birthdays as everyone is growing up! We are still working hard on our Victorian topic and for a day we turned our classroom into a Victorian one. Everyone dressed up and our teacher became very strict! She checked to see if our hands and ears were clean. We had to say prayers in the classroom and write with chalk on a slate. There was reading, writing and arithmetic and instead of PE, we had to do “drill”. We even played with Victorian toys in the playground. Some of the children were very glad to go forward in time to our normal school!
