Yr 12 Mr Matthew McCormick

Year 12 - WC January 6th 2025

Happy New Year! Year 12 were back with a bang this week.

We started our new topic of Question Skills in English. Definitely got us thinking.

It was 'Money, Money, Money' in Maths as we started our new topic.

In Home Management, it was great to see so many independently make their own cheese toasties. The only downside to making food for yourself is cleaning all the dishes you used!

It was lovely to catch up with some of you at the Annual Review.

Hope you have a great weekend.

SERC - January 9th 2025

Year 12 - WC December 16th 2024

And that was the last week of 2024, and what a week! After all our hard work for the panto, it was time to let our hair down. We made some delicious reindeer biscuits that I doubt made it home! We competed in our House Cup Christmas Quiz made by Miss Lowry. We even got to go and watch The Beauty and The Beast Panto in the Waterfront!
What a year so far for Year 12 and we cannot wait to see what 2025 has in store.

Hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year, and see you in 2025!

Year 12 - WC December 2nd 2024

It's beginning to look like Christmas!

Rehearsals are in full swing and we cannot wait to show you all the amazing work. No video this week because Spoilers!

Hope to see you all next Friday for our show, and have a great weekend.

Year 12 - WC November 25th 2024

What a busy week! The video is only a snapshot of everything we did!

In English, we created a monster for our novel. Lets just say, I wouldn't want to bump into any of these in a dark alley.

In Maths, we continued our two times tables and remainders.

For Travel Training, we had to locate and navigate to different festive locations around Donaghadee, including the Christmas Windows painted by Year 13. Amazing!

Rehearsals are well underway and with only 7 more school days until the shows, it is pedal to the metal. We cannot wait for you to see it!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Year 12 - WC November 18th 2024

Time flies when you're having fun!

In Home Management, Mrs McVeigh taught us how to make stir-fry noodles.

We were continued multiplying by two in Maths.

In English, we created an entry into our Skulduggery Pleasant Grimoire on different beings in our novel.

Hope you have a great weekend.

Year 12 - WC November 11th 2024

Two weeks completed of this half-term and what a busy two weeks!

You'd think we were in IKEA in Home Management as we made Speedy Meatballs. Delicious!

In Maths, we started our new topic of doubling and halving.

For English, we thought about different characters in our novel and how we would dress them differently.

We practised our observation skills in Personal Skills, looking for risks and identifying markers while we were out and about.

Rehearsals are underway as we get ready for our Pantomime. Together We Can!

Hope you have a great weekend.

SERC - November 14th 2024

Year 12 - WC November 4th 2024

Welcome back! I hope you all had a nice half-term break.

It was all money, money, money in Be The Best You as we start looking at Money Matters. We thought about how we save money and what we spend it on - needs or wants.

In Home Management, we made party pizzas.

We recapped our novel in English, thinking about the key points of the story so far.

On Wednesday, we travelled to Newtownards then navigated ourselves to see Paddington and to Ards Shopping Centre. We identified places we could visit to assist us if we got lost.

Hope you have a great weekend!

SERC - November 7th 2024

Year 12 - WC October 21st 2024

In Home Management, we made Sticky wings with sweet potato. Delicious!

We developed our communication skills in English as we step-by-step guided Mr McCormick how to make pancakes.

SERC - October 24th 2024

Year 12 - WC October 14th 2024

The penultimate week of this half term, and what a week it was!

It was all about the 'finsta' (fake instagram) in Be The Best You as we thought and discussed how we present ourself online.

In Home Management, we made Mushroom Egg Fried Rice. It was great to see everyone become more proficient in the kitchen.

It was lovely to meet some of you at our Options Morning on Tuesday. It is always good to get the cogs turning about life after Killard. At SERC, we made a galaxy with Hannah in Art and fifteens with Heather in Cookery.

For Pupil Choice, we looked at different trains and how the railway network got started.

Hope you have a great weekend!

SERC - October 17th 2024

Year 12 - WC October 7th 2024

First full week of October, done!

We were phishing in Be The Best You, but don't be expecting anything for your dinner! We learnt about how some organisations can your personal details and use these for identity theft.

In Home Management, we made Ribbon Pasta with courgettes and carrots. 2 of your 5-a-day in one go!

For Personal Skills, we watched clips from Hidden Figures and identified the many prejudices and discrimination the women from NASA received.

In Maths, we started to look at multiplying and dividing, and what to do with remainders.

In English, we looked at making notes and worked on our listening and memory skills.

Hope you have a great weekend!

SERC - October 10th 2024

Year 12 - WC September 30th 2024

Another great week in Year 12!

In Be The Best You, we were very "app-y" as we designed our own apps and how we could safeguard the users.

In Home Management, we made Pain Perdu (French Toast to you and me). We learnt how to tell if an egg is good or bad by how it floats in water.

In Personal Skills, we judged a photo of a man to guess what he did and what he was like. The guesses ranged from museum curator, politician and toy maker. Nobody would have guessed he body-boarded and no one guessed it was Mr McCormick's dad!

In PE, we started football practise, and in Leisure Activities we completed a yoga flow.

As Year 12 won class of the month in September, we were treated to chips! Delicious!

Hope you have a great weekend!

SERC - October 3rd 2024

Greggs have got nothing on Year 12's sausage rolls we made in Home Management.

For Be The Best You, we looked at online safety and communicating with others online.

We started our OCR coursework in Maths with our number work, and English we started our reading skills unit.

In Personal Skills, we completed our Emotional Wellbeing unit by looking at mental and physical health.

Hope you have a great weekend!

SERC - September 19th 2024

Year 12 - WC September 9th 2024

Week 2 done! A busy week in Year 12.

In Home Management, we made some delicious bacon butties.

The fingers and toes were almost out in Maths as we added 3 numbers using the column method.

We practised our punctuation skills in English.

So far, Stephanie has inherited her uncle's fortune, been attacked twice, found out there was magic, met a living skeleton detective and the most beautiful woman in the world. All in two chapters!

In ICT, we practised our typing skills to be beat our WPM (Words Per Minute) score.

At SERC, we met the art tutor, Hannah, and the catering tutor, Heather. In Art, we learnt about warm and cool colours and made some print pictures. In Catering, we toured the kitchen and learnt about Health and Safety.

On Monday, we had great fun at the Pathways Funday.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Year 12 - WC 2nd September 2024

Welcome to Year 12! What an amazing first week.

In Maths, we practised column addition and subtraction. Some people were adding and subtracting 3 digits! Wow!

In English, we looked at capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.

We started our class novel Skulduggery Pleasant. After her Uncle died, Stephanie has inherited his house and all his money. Unfortunately, her uncle has a key which some rather bad people want. Where is the key? What does the key open? And, more importantly, how did Skulduggery become a fire wielding skeleton detective?

For Home Management, the cook books were out as we looked at what meals we could make for £1.

With Mrs Gallagher in PE, we bounced, tucked and rolled into gymnastics.

With Mr Nelson in Leisure Activities, we completed 10 circuit activities.

Hope you have a great weekend!
