This week the pupils in The Hive took part in the nationwide event of Volunteer Week. They began the week by becoming Classroom Assistants and enjoyed looking after the younger pupils in school. Next the pupils volunteered in the community by helping out the Lady Captain of Donaghadee Golf Club with some ground maintenance. The pupils helped out with the set up, running and take down of the Primary Sports Days. Finally the pupils worked with Matt from Volunteer Now to price items for sale in Oxfam Charity Shops. Matt also presented every pupil with an Impact Award certificate from Volunteer Now for their hard work over the week. Well done everyone that was a smashing week.
The Hive Six Nations Challenge 🏉 🇮🇪 🇮🇹 🏴 🏴 🇫🇷 🏴
We divided the pupils in to 6 groups with a member of staff as their captain. Each group was randomly assigned a country from the Six Nations Rugby Tournament 🏉 . Each pupil had to take a rugby selfie 🤳 and come up with their own nickname. Each week we will make a popular food from the county that is playing Ireland. This week we made Croissants 🥐. The competition and banter has already started in the Hive. Good luck to all teams with extra luck going to Ireland ☘️😀😀
World Mental Health Day: Tea & Talk or Coffee & Chat
To mark World Mental Health Day, the pupils in Year 13 and Year 14 decide to spread a little joy around school. They made, packed and delivered Rice Krispie Treats to every class in the school. The Busy Bees from the Beehive Cafe hosted a Tea & Talk morning in the school staff room. The pupils worked in 15 minutes shifts over break time, serving tea, coffee and great conversation. Scott even treated some staff to a stand up comedy routine. After looking after others, they took time to look after themselves with coffee, computer games, pool, a walk to the beach and then finished off with a cone of their favourite ice cream. Well done to all the pupils in our Key Stage 5 Hive. 🐝🐝
