WB 01/06: National Volunteers' Week provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils in the Key Stage 5 Hive to make a positive difference both within school and across the wider community. Throughout the week, our pupils enthusiastically participated in a range of volunteering activities, demonstrating kindness, teamwork, and community spirit. As part of our support for Donaghadee In Bloom, pupils worked hard to create almost 200 planted window boxes. These colourful displays will help brighten the town and contribute to the ongoing efforts to make Donaghadee an attractive and welcoming place for residents and visitors alike. A team of pupils then took on the responsibility of delivering the window boxes around the town. The project has already received fantastic feedback, with many members of the community expressing their gratitude and appreciation for the pupils' efforts. The volunteering continued with a community litter pick, where pupils were joined by members of the Board of Governors, the Charity Committee, and the PSA. Together, they helped improve the local environment while demonstrating the importance of working collectively to care for our community. The final day of Volunteers' Week focused on supporting others within school. Pupils assisted with lunchtime duties by distributing lunches, helping in the playground, and tidying communal areas. They also took the opportunity to show appreciation for our dedicated staff by serving hot beverages during their lunch breaks. We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, commitment, and sense of responsibility shown by our Key Stage 5 Hive pupils throughout the week. Their efforts have made a meaningful impact on both the school and the wider community, perfectly reflecting the spirit of National Volunteers' Week.

There were sections of the museum for trains, cars, buses, trams, surf boards, planes and farm vehicles. A highlight was seeing the cars from films such as Back to the Future!
WB 18/05: we are in the process of doing a class craft project - making our own bunting for the Hive! This involves techniques such as designing patterns, tie dye, ironing, fabric painting. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

WB 2nd March: this week was our Careers Week. It is always such a highlight of our school calendar in post-16. We invited many guests to lead sessions with us about interview techniques, CV writing, and how to get a job. We even had some past pupils come in to tell us about their experiences after leaving Killard! On Thursday we had a day of celebration to reflect upon the connection between KHS and Bangor Elim for work experience placements. It has been a wonderful week - thank you very much to everyone who came in to school!
We have been practicing our travel training and really improving our confidence at asking for tickets on a bus. Using our Y-Link cards, we get discounted travel!
W/b 19/01: Big G took the Elim work experience group to see Stormont Parliament Buildings. We met Stephen Dunn MLA, and Marilyn and Becky gave us a great tour of some of the rooms. We saw where all the big decisions and laws are made, and some of us even had a go on the microphone! We were super excited to be able to go out onto the balcony and look at the beautiful view of the grounds!
We made our own dough and practiced using a knife and fork properly. We set the table including glassware, cutlery and even napkins!
Happy new year! We hope everyone had a lovely winter break! We have started back into 2026 with a very busy schedule as ever! For the first time this year, we have been to the gym on Friday. Rebecca’s group went to Aurora in Bangor and Stephen’s group went to Newtownards. We were given gym inductions by personal trainers and had a go on some of the machines and equipment! What a fantastic experience! Look forward to going again next week!
In our final week of 2025, we had a pj day with Christmas films and hot chocolate, made our own Hive Christmas Dinner, visited the Belfast Markets, and went to see Jack Frost at The Mac! We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

As well as this, we've been spreading some Christmas cheer by making decorations to sell at our KHS Christmas Fayre, and some of us even painted the window of Rainey's Chip Shop in Donagahdee! Amazing work everyone!
