Emma/Hayley's class
Welcome to our Discovery Classroom!
Our class team — Emma, Hayley, Chloe, Toni and Tracey‑Anne — work together to create a safe, nurturing and responsive environment in which every child can thrive.
In our classroom, relationships come first. Children learn best when they feel secure, understood and valued, so we prioritise building trust and forming meaningful connections. We follow each child’s lead, recognising that engagement grows when children feel confident, in control and listened to.
Working closely with our AHP team, we embrace a total communication approach. This may include visuals, Makaton, objects of reference, and digital communication tools such as GoTalk, while still celebrating the vital role of gesture, facial expression and body language. Every child’s voice matters, and we support them to communicate in the way that is most comfortable and effective for them.
Our learning is guided by the EQUALS Curriculum, which offers a personalised, motivating and developmentally appropriate pathway for each pupil. For our youngest learners, this means focusing on foundational skills through meaningful, play‑based and practical experiences. Activities are designed around each child’s strengths, interests and sensory needs, ensuring learning feels relevant, enjoyable and achievable.
Together, we create a classroom where children explore, connect, communicate and grow — at their own pace, in their own way.
