Welcome to P.1.

My name is Shirlee, and I am the P.1. class teacher. I am supported by two wonderful classroom assistants, Chloe and Michaela and together we create a caring, enthusiastic learning environment where every child feels safe, secure, valued and happy to come to school.

In P.1. we follow the Equals curriculum tailoring learning to meet the individual needs of each child. We believe that strong relationships are at the heart of successful learning, we focus on developing shared attention, communication and curiosity through engaging child centred activities.

Our daily routine includes activities such as structured play, sensory activities , songs and rhymes, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, , Sensology and RISE. These are balanced with movement breaks and opportunities to relax and regulate throughout the day,

One of our key goals is to support every child to communicate their wants , needs and interests. We use a range of communication approaches including objects of reference, visual supports, the Gestalt Language Processing approach , Makaton and our Core Word programme, helping to create a rich and supportive communication environment.

We value strong partnerships with our parents and carers and hope that you will always feel able to reach out to us with any question, concerns or achievements. By working together , we can help every child to each their full potential.
