Fabulous felt making! We took colourful raw wool and made it stick together by adding fairy liquid, water and ALOT of tapping and patting!

Do you brush your teeth every morning and evening? We did an egg-speriment to see how different drinks affect eggs - a bit like testing our teeth. Yes and coffee stain our teeth and it was no surprise to see that the energy drink totally changed the appearance of the egg, turning it white and lumpy 🤮 It makes us want to brush our teeth! We made posters about healthy and unhealthy foods for our teeth 🦷
What an action-packed day at the Transport Museum! We loved seeing the cars, trains, buses, planes and had fun seeing ourselves on the green screen. The Delorean car was a big favourite!

We finished a busy working week with fun activities today, making Easter egg nests, colouring in eggs, playing two very competitive tournaments- Pool and Table-top football. Today we baked raspberry and white chocolate muffins 😋We ate them while we watched an anime film 🎥 called Arrietty

Lots of hilarious animated voices from Ferris, a great futuristic adventure story from Jamie which he read part of, leaving us on a cliffhanger...... and we all loved Noel’s picture book with his beautiful paintings and lovely titles 🤩🎉👍

We loved Kayla’s superb story about Wednesday, Lewis’ entertaining facts about animals, Owen’s great reading of his fact book and Xander’s book about Megaladons and how they became extinct .......
Making books for World Book Day- lots of creative books 📚 about Wednesday, Harry Potter, a short story, shape books about Megaladons 🦈 we can’t wait to read them out to our audience on Thursday!

Spring is in the air 😊 ☀️ We started Japanese brush painting today, using specialist brushes to make thick and thin lines for cherry blossom branches 🌸🌺 with an amazing variety of results. Next week we add the blossom so watch this space!
Today we made banana 🍌 bread in HE. Nearly everyone in the class tried it, had seconds and the verdict was a big 👍 😃.

In our Japan project this week we learned about Japanese schools, lunches and also how to draw anime eyes using colour blending - with great results!
Numeracy, handwriting, super spellers and finishing our topic on Forces with Magnets 🧲 - we had fun doing our experiment to see what is magnetic around the classroom 🤩
Year 9 sprang in to the week in PE with gymnastics! !🤸♂️
In between numeracy and Literacy lessons, we had time to finish our wind turbines and make some fabulous Valentines Day cards 💘 I wonder who will be the lucky recipients?! 💕

What a great day! In between art lessons and Super Spellings we had a talk from PSNI about online safety. We also did a new STEM challenge for our topic on renewable energy, making wind turbines. We did part one today and will complete part two tomorrow💨
Sushi Day! 🍱 we made sushi and quite a few tried it.....some used chopsticks - well done! 👏 Everyone in the class tried a piece of seaweed or some sushi rice or cucumber. It’s always good to try out new flavours!

In Science we are continuing to look at different forces. Today we learnt what makes one object float and another sink - buoyancy and density. We carried out our experiments and will make our own boats in teams to test out tomorrow 💦 🚤
Year 9 are learning about forces - starting with gravity, friction and air resistance. We looked at the effect of different materials on a toy car to test for levels of friction and today we did an air resistance experiment with parachutes which was fun!🤩

We’ve been learning about Japan and today we made Japanese Bubble Tea -tapioca pearls in mango juice. We boiled the tapioca pearls in water and added some sugar. They look very strange. Everyone tried it and some were surprised that they liked it!

We’ve enjoyed looking at the solar system using SkyView Lite app! We’ve spotted Jupiter, Venus, the moon, constellations and even one or two satellites orbiting the earth. We’ve learned about a day in the life of an astronaut and written about being in space 🌙 ☀️ ⭐️ 🌏

Today the Bubble Man came and we had lots of fun playing with giant bubbles outside!
We loved the workshop with Nigel from the Ulster Museum, looking at Animals on the Move. We asked and answered lots of questions. Year 9 know a lot out animals and enjoyed seeing the animals from the museum! They did some great drawings afterwards and we can’t wait for part two next Tuesday!

We took a close look at Saturn, the giant gas planet, and Mars, the Red Planet! Here are some of our facts about the planets 🪐 most of us decided we would not like to live on Mars. Look out for the space fireworks display at the weekend - the Orionid meteor shower which happens once every 75 years! 🤩

Looking at 2D and 3D shapes, we did some tracings and some freehand drawings. We made the shapes into objects. Can you guess what they are? Some made optical illusions and others added rectangles and cuboids to cityscapes 🏙️
Working on our USA 🇺🇸 Topic we learned about New York and made some popcorn 🍿 eaten out of our popcorn boxes we made!

Super second week in year 9! 😃. As well as doing lots of literacy and numeracy, we are improving our tech drawing skills and we’ll show you some finished work on display next week.
Team-building Day! We brainstormed how we can get on well and work as a team this year. Then we built towers out of marshallows and spaghetti. Both teams worked well. We think one might collapse first. Guess which one!
