Principal's Welcome

Welcome to our Killard House School website.

Killard House School is a co-educational controlled school providing high quality specialist provision for approximately 220 pupils aged 4-19 with a range of additional complex learning needs.

The school opened in 1958 at the original site in Newtownards in the house owned by the Walker family. Killard House relocated in 2009 to Donaghadee and has continued for over 60 years to support the needs of our pupils, within the North Down and Ards Peninsula area.

All pupils follow the Northern Ireland curriculum with adaptions made by our specialist staff to ensure we meet the needs of every individual. We currently provide for children and young people within a Primary and Post Primary classes, and a Post 16 Sixth Form.  There are 26 classes each with a teacher and a classroom assistant. Most classes have an additional classroom assistant to support a particular provision. The current staffing is Principal, Vice-Principal, 29 teachers and over 50 classroom assistants. The school is also supported by a number of allied health professionals.

Our pupils are at the heart of our school and Killard House staff are highly trained and experienced in creating a safe, supportive, learning environment for all. We provide advice based on experience, ongoing development and training while liaising with various professional bodies to deliver the best educational package for all our pupils.

Our school prides ourselves in promoting a positive school ethos for all of our Killard House Family with the school motto “TOGETHER WE CAN” at the core of everything we do.

Please enjoy our website.

Mrs Katrina Yeates (Acting Principal).
