Week Beginning 4th May, Leisure for Life, Mr Marshall
Good day to you Year 13 and 14,
I hope you are all keeping well and are settled at home.
Vegetables were the order of the week for Mrs Marshall and I. We bought a small greenhouse, some soils, vegetables seeds and pots. We have planted tomato, lettuce and garden peas. I will keep you updated with how they are growing over the next couple of months. It is really important to eat health foods while we are in our homes.
To go with healthy eating we all must exercise. This week Tory, from Everybody Active, has posted a Chair Yoga video for us to take part in. We all really enjoyed Tory's Yoga sessions this year, so when you are joining in with Tory, imagine you are back in Ards Leisure Centre. This visualising the Leisure Centre might help you mind, by pretending you are somewhere else other than you house.
Keep safe everyone and keep smiling!!!
wb 4 May 2020 Mrs Stewart Yr13 Literacy I've added an activity about VE Day which is remembered this week. Perhaps you could do some additional research about VE.
Numeracy week beg 04/05/20 & 11/05/20
Hi Yr13. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been so good this week but hope you have all managed to get out for a walk at least a couple of times.
This week I'm setting you a slightly longer shopping activity which can be completed over this week and next (ie 2 weeks). I have also added another Active Maths Activity so you now have 3 to have a go at.
Enjoy your week. Mrs A
Level 1, 2 & 3. You may use a calculator to add totals if necessary.
Can you guess the names of any of the staff in this picture? To find out who they are and what they're up to go to the Physical Education section in classes
Personal Development - Emotional Well-being 27/04/20
We all know that listening to music is one of our favourite and best coping skills. The photo above sums up exactly what music is - it is what our feelings sound like.
Whether we are feeling happy, sad, anxious or angry we enjoy listening to music and that music usually mirrors how we are feeling. We choose different music depending on our mood - that is, we tend to listen to happy, upbeat music when we are happy and when we are feeling sad, we tend to listen to more slow, sombre/gloomy music. But it’s not just the beat of the music that mirrors our feelings, it is also the lyrics (the words). Usually the music we choose has words that describe our mood and sometimes listening to this music helps us to find the words to express our feelings.
I have attached worksheets for 3 different moods - angry/ frustrated; happy/content; sad/anxious. I would like you to take the time this week to choose the worksheet that best suits your mood when you are listening to your music and write down the song and artist (group/band) that you have chosen. I also would like you to write out at least 2 or 3 of your favourite lines from the song that you feel best mirrors/describes your feelings.
You may choose to complete more than 1 worksheet each day because we all know that our moods and feelings are temporary - that is, our mood changes throughout the day. The beautiful thing about music is that there are lots of different groups and songs to choose from - there is no right or wrong choice - your choice is personal and unique to you. Enjoy! #Stay Home #Stay Safe
Week beginning 27th April
Good Day Year 13,
I hope you are well and excited about this weeks home learning!! I know I am .
I hope you are able to find the time to follow the exercises provided and maybe even finding that you are toning up your 6 pack!! That's a 6 pack in your stomach muscles, not simply a 6 pack of Tayto Cheese and onion in your belly!!
This week Ryan is going to help you increase the intensity of the exercises!! YES HAPPY DAYS!!!
Ryan is going to give you a work out session with 3 sets of 5 different exercises.
You can view the video as many times as you like in the week. If you enjoyed last weeks video you could even go back and do that one again. It will amaze you how the time goes by whenever you have something to focus on. So focus on the exercises and time will fly. Extra benefit is you will feel a lot more positive and creative, which will help you come up ideas to do to pass the time!!
Remember to stay positive and keep smiling!!!

Yr 13 Numeracy week beg. 27/04/20.
Hope you have all had a good week and have been enjoying the lovely weather either in your garden or going for a walk. I have set you some more Maths but this week you have all got the same time activity to complete. I have also given you another Maths game on Active Learn but also kept last weeks as well so you now have 2 to play.
Have a good week. Missing you all and all your chat Mrs A
Dear Parents / Guardians, As explained in the school comms message that was sent home regarding new resources being uploaded for this term please check out the 2 help sheets that will hopefully allow you to access the Active Learn website from home. Once logged in you should be able to access Literacy / Numeracy and Science activities / resources for your son / daughter set by individual teachers. Teachers will explain on class pages what activities they have set and then hopefully when you get logged into Active Learn you will find specific resources / tasks / e-books set for your child. The first help sheet explains how to get on to the Active Learn website and how to log in. The second help sheet gives similar information followed by more specific details about e-reading books set for your child. Thank you Mrs A McBratney
Personal Development - Mindfulness Activities 20/04/20
As we all know, we have to continue to stay at home for at least another 3 weeks. You may all have different feelings about this - some of you may be happy and content to stay at home but others may be feeling frustrated, bored or a bit down because you cannot go out and do the things you want or go and visit friends or relatives. It is during these times that we need to use our coping skills to help us to think positively and find a way to be calm and content.
We practice mindfulness activities in school as one of our good coping skills so I have chosen 2 mindfulness activities for you to do at home to help you stay positive. For a number of weeks now people have been drawing pictures of Rainbows as a sign of hope that this horrible virus will come to an end and we will all be able to get back to normal. So, I thought it would be good to practice some Rainbow Breathing where you imagine yourself creating a Rainbow 🌈 while you deep breathe.
There are 2 versions of the Rainbow Breathe activity - one is a 3 minute activity and Rainbow Breathe2 is a 4 minute 30 second activity. I am giving you a written instruction and a voicemail listening instruction for both activities. Please try to take the time at least once every day to do one of the activities. You can do the activities on your own or together with your family. Find somewhere quiet where you can focus and concentrate on the activity and not be disturbed. By doing the activities every day you will improve your ability to imagine/visualise your Rainbow 🌈 and you will also improve your breathing technique. Most importantly, you will improve your mood and your mental wellbeing. Enjoy! #Stay Home # Stay Safe

I hope you have been enjoying the fantastic weather we have been getting recently. I have been outside everyday tiding up my garden and it is looking pretty good now. . I used our power washer to clean our decking. I will post a before and after photo.
I'm sure you enjoyed plenty of chocolate over the Easter holidays and now you want help to get back into exercising. Over the next few weeks I will be uploading a number of videos created by a friend of mine, Ryan McQuillan. Some of you may recognise Ryan as he used to come into school as a sports coach. Ryan has put together a low intensity workout which uses very little equipment. This week Ryan uses a chair and Baked Beans can. Maybe once you have completed your exercise you could have the beans for your lunch.
Thank you everyone, keep safe, look after your household and continue to Smile.

Numeracy 20/04/20. Hi Yr13.
Hope you have all had a good Easter and not eaten too many Easter eggs!!
The weather is lovely so I hope you are getting out in your garden or going for a walk each day.
I have set you some work on Time. It is at Entry 1, Entry 2 & Entry 3. Choose the level to match the work you were doing in class and if you don't know then pick the level that suits you best.
Missing you all. Have a good week. Mrs A
Good morning folks! Hope you are all doing well and keeping safe! Another couple of new tasks for this week and also continuing on with the ones from last week 😊 Mrs McB
Week beginning 30/03/20
Well Done Year 13 and 14 for getting through week one of staying at home. From the response to Mrs McKees post on Google Classroom, we can see that the majority of you are keeping well and busy. .
The task for week 2 is similar to week 1.
We would like you to perform: (I have attached a picture of the exercises so that you can visually see what to do)
10 Squats on to a chair or a seat. To challenge yourself remove the chair and see how low you can get. Remember keep your back straight and head up.
10 Knee to Elbow in a standing position. Make sure you bring your left knee to your right elbow and then your right knee to your left elbow.
10 Knee to Elbow in the push up position. This time bring your right knee up to your right elbow and then your left knee to your left elbow.
These 3 exercises can be added to week 1s. This time we would like you to do this 3 to 4 times over the week. If you want to do more please do so, it would be a HUGE to you. If you struggle with any of the exercises let us know on Google Classroom and we can help you!
If you choose to go out for a walk, on your own or with a member of your household, be sure to take the lead and practice all that you have learnt in pedestrian travel training. Don't forget the social distancing of 6 feet apart!!
Keep positive, Keep healthy and ...........
Keep washing your hands. This weeks song is Baby Shark!!! DO DO DO DODO DODO
Keep safe everyone!!
Life Skills Tasks 1
Good Day Team Year 13,
I hope everyone is well. What a strange time we are living through. The important thing to remember is we WILL get through it.
We are going to set you some tasks over the next two weeks that will be keep you occupied while you are at home. NOT just playing Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo switch or any other console, you all know who I am talking about!!
The tasks will involve doing practical things, researching topics that you are interested in and games that you can play with your families at home.
Fingers crossed the Sun will keep his hat on for a while, which means you should get outside and keep up your fitness that we have worked on in Leisure for Life. No laziness, you all know who I am talking about!! If you and everyone in your household is feeling well, go for a walk around the your local area. If you can go out, stay 6 feet away from anyone else this is called 'Practicing social distance'. Remember your travel training.
Within your house you can perform:
- Sit ups
- Push ups,
- Step ups on the stairs,
- Star jumps
Keep active, you will feel better and you will sleep better.
Task for week beginning Monday 23rd March:
First up we have a practical task, I would like you to complete a mile walk outside while practicing social distancing, 2 or 3 times next week. Bring a family member or a pet (unless its a goldfish, that would just look weird ).
If you can not make it outside, I would like you to perform a number of exercises in your house 2 or 3 times next week:
- 10 Sit ups
- 10 Push ups (these can be done with your knees on the ground, back straight, head up and with your hands on the ground bend at the elbows.)
- 10 star jumps
Mrs McKee, Mrs Murdoch and I will be in touch over the next number of weeks via Google Classroom, make sure you continue to check in with us. I'm sure there may be a few random quiz questions put up, so be sure to answer. If anyone has stories to share or ideas about what you could do at home while we are off, please feel free to share them with us on Google Classroom. We will post information about the future tasks on this website so keep checking, we wouldn't want you to miss out.
Finally Year 13 remember to smile, keep your body and mind active, be safe and WASH YOUR HANDS while singing This is Me from 'The Greatest Showman' See below.
