Home Learning - Week Beginning - 15/06/20

Hi P6 parents/guardians,

I hope you are all well!  I cant believe we are now in to our last week of home learning.  This weeks learning activities are below and as always I have also allocated books and phonics activities on the brilliant Active Learn website.

I am still contactable via email until the end of June so please feel free to get in touch as I have so enjoyed hearing from you all and seeing photos of my lovely class smileyheart.

Although there will be no learning activities next week, I will be uploading a very special end of year message, so don't forget to log on!

Until then, stay safe and take care heart

Lynsey McNeilly

P.S. Don't forget to check out Mrs Curry's P.E. page for all the info on her very special sports day, which is taking place this Thursday!  It's going to be great fun, I can't wait to take part!

Hi P6 parents/guardians,

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying/surviving lockdown!  I know the change in weather this past week definitely made everyone in my house a little claustrophobic!  Luckily the weather app reassures me the sun is back for the next while.  Why not try doing some of your home learning outside with a  picnic?

Please read the guidance notes before beginning any of the tasks and remember there is also reading and phonics activities on the Active Learn website smiley.

I have so enjoyed having contact with some of you via email and getting to see what my lovely class have been getting up to, so please feel free to message me smiley.  Equally if there is anything I can do to offer support/guidance, please do not hesitate to get in contact!

I understand how difficult/stressful home learning can be so as always only do what benefits you and your family, however the daily wellness activities are something that the whole family might enjoy doing to reflect on and understand their feelings during this very surreal time!

As always, please take care and stay safe heart

Lynsey McNeilly xx

Hi P6 parents/guardians,

I hope you are well and enjoying the sunshine ☀️. It's hard to believe we are now in to June!

I know how difficult home learning can be, especially with the weather this good, so to make it slightly easier I have made some of this week's activities 'summer' themed 😎🌞🍦.  I have also allocated specific reading and phonics activities on the active learn site.

Make sure to check out Mrs Curry's P. E. page when she has organised activities for a DIY sports day 😊🤾‍♀️🤸‍♂️.

More than anything though, do what works for your familys wellbeing and happiness  😊.

Take care and stay safe ❤️

Lynsey McNeilly xx

Very exciting news... Setting up Active Learn

Hi P6 parents/guardians!
I hope you are all well! The weather is on the up again this week thank goodness, so I know there will be lots of outdoor activites and garden play at my house 😁☀️
I have allocated individual reading books and phonics activities on active learn (log in instructions are under last weeks activities) and this week in numeracy we are introducing capacity 💦🥛. Please read through the PowerPoints and complete the differentiated worksheets.
This term we would have been doing my favourite topic, WW2. I  made the decision not to do it as I didn't think the pupils would get the full learning experience or enjoyment by completing it online. However, as this Friday is 'Victory in Europe Day' I have uploaded some information and activities 🛩️.
Topic work information is below 👇🏽, I hope everyone tried their best to save water last week! If you did, you can print out or save your "water warrior" certificate!
I hope everyone has a great week.
Take care and stay safe ❤️
Lynsey McNeilly xx
P. S. I hope you all had a laugh and enjoyed the "Show Me The Way" video!

Hi P6 parents/guardians!
I hope this message finds you all safe and well 😊❤️
This week I have uploaded the link and instructions to access the 'Active Learn' website. On it you will find reading books 📚, phonics activities and topic activities that have been allocated by me, specifically to suit your child. Take your time to navigate the website and over the coming weeks I will add more.
In numeracy this week we are focusing on weight, please choose from the differentiated PowerPoints and then work through the differentiated worksheets that best suit your child's ability.
Finally, as part of our water topic work I have uploaded a power point about water usage and also a challenge activity sheet! I think the children will enjoy being water superheroes 💦💪🏼🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ as we are very eco conscious in P6 😁. Next week I will upload some certificates for everyone!
As always, these activities are suggested! You can do as much or as little as suits you, your child and your family! Please do not feel any pressure, more than anything I just want my lovely P6 class to be happy and healthy ❤️.
Take care and stay safe!

Some great ideas for talking and listening that the whole family could play!

Hi P6 parents/guardians!
Welcome to week 3 of home learning 😊
I hope you are all well and have been able to enjoy a lovely (albeit very different) Easter, and are now beginning to adapt to our new way of life (I know it's taken me a while).
Below you will find some suggested activities for this week. As always, I cannot stress enough that these activities are there to make your life a little easier, not more difficult, so only do what suits you and your family 😊.
I have also listed some great resources offering advice and guidance on home learning as well as live, daily activities and a fantastic e-book which explains corona virus for children.
Myself, Mrs McAteer and Mr Lynas continue to miss our wee P6 class and send our love.
Take care and stay safe,
Lynsey McNeilly xx

Hi Team P6!

Just a quick message to wish you all a Happy Easter 🐣🐰!

I hope you are all well and managing to get outside to enjoy the sunshine ☀️.

I know this is a very strange time and a bit hard to understand but it is really important that we all stay in our houses to keep everyone safe ❤️!

I have put some Easter activities below if you are looking for something new to keep you busy!

Hope you all have a lovely Easter, try not to eat too many Easter eggs and sweeties (although you know chocolate is my favourite thing in the world, so I'll have to make sure I don't eat too much🍫😋!).

Can't wait to see you all soon and enjoy lots of laughs together.

I think about you all every single day and wonder how you are!

Lots of love,

Miss McNeilly 😊❤️ xx

Hi P6 Parents/Guardians! I hope you are all well and have managed to settle in to some sort of routine. I totally understand that in these very uncertain times each family has to do what suits their family dynamic (I'm busy trying to keep a very active 2 year old entertained all day) so please do not feel any pressure to complete the activities provided, however they are there to use if you feel your child would benefit from them. I have been in touch with Mrs McAteer and Mr Lynas and we are all missing the laughs and fun with our lovely P6 class! Please tell them all that we are missing them and can't wait to see them soon! Take care and stay safe. Lynsey McNeilly xx

Week 2 - Guidance notes, suggested activities and useful websites

Hi P6 parents/guardians,

What a strange and surreal situation we are in!  I cannot begin to tell you how sad myself, Mrs McAteer and Mr Lynas are at the prospect that we will not be finishing the year with our wonderful, bright, clever, funny P6 class!  Please let your children know that we are thinking about them and already looking forward to when we are all together again :-)

Below you will find some suggested activities and websites we would use in class.  I have also uploaded some revision worksheets.  I cannot stress enough that these activities are only suggested and are only ideas to keep your children busy if they are happy to do them.  Please do not feel any pressure!

Hope to see you all soon,

Take care and stay safe,

Lynsey McNeilly xx

This week in P6 we started our new numeracy topic, which is measure! Today we were experimenting with non-standard units of measure to measure the length of different objects around our classroom. We worked in groups to make estimations and predictions based on our learning.

As part of the shared education programme, we spent time with our friends from Donaghadee Primary School. We looked at photos of our ice-breaker day and talked about our favourite parts of the day. We then worked together to write comments under the photos!

In P6 we are great at phonics, however sometimes we find our voewls a little tricky to remember. Today we used a combination of interactive games, cued articulation and written work to help us to learn them!

We were so lucky to get anothr trampolining session with the fantastic Joan! She said we are all great listeners and after only 2 sessions we were doing star jumps, tuck jumps and even seat drops!

Everyday in P6 we take a few minutes to relax and enjoy participating in Take 10 and Breath! We find this really helps us to get ready to learn and to regulate our emotions if we are feeling overwhelmed!

This week in P6 we have been working hard during numeracy. We have been focusing on adding “doubles” and “near doubles” without the help of a counting aid! This is a strategy we have been using to help us to develop our mental maths skills.

We are so lucky, we got to spend a lovely day exploring the beautiful Mount Stewart! There was lots of running, climbing, building dens and mini beast hunting!

We have been working hard during numeracy topic work! We can now read o’clock and half past times!

We have had the best day with our friends from Donaghadee Primary School, taking part in the shared education programme.

P6 are loving our new, shared healthy break! This week we have been trying lots of different fruit and veg!

A super, fun, festive week in P6! We’ve had our Christmas party, Christmas baking and made our own decorations but best of all was our visit to the magical Killard grotto to see Santa!! Luckily he said we are all on the nice list!! Merry Christmas from P6!!

As a special treat, P6 had our very own Christmas do! We headed down to the Captains Table in Donaghadee for a yummy lunch (Rosemary and the rest of the staff took such great care of us) before walking down to the lighthouse and finishing our day in the park! We got lots of lovely comments on our great behaviour and beautiful manners!

Our new sound this week is ‘ng’. Check out how we have been using this sound to build new words!

As a special treat, P6 got to go trampolining this week! We had so much fun and our instructor Joan was amazing, teaching us how to bounce safely and even do a few tricks!

Well, we wrote our lists and we checked them twice, then it was time to hit Bloomfield's for our Christmas shopping! All of the children took lots of time to make sure they were buying just the right presents for their loved ones. We were all very grown up and independent using the self service checkout, then there was just enough time to vote for the Killard House reindeer, Donaghadeer! Back at school we had a great day listening to Christmas songs, drinking hot chocolate and wrapping our presents. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

We had a visit to the eco van today. Noel was great and told us lots of interesting facts about recycling. We are all experts now on putting rubbish in the correct bin! To finish the session we got to make our own badges. Thank you Noel!

Today in P6 we were learning about Remembrance Day. We then used pastels, paints and tissue paper to create our own poppy pictures. We took so much time and care when working on them. The end results were just beautiful!

Happy Halloween everyone!! P6 have had a great day with lots of Halloween arts and crafts, Halloween baking and of course the Killard Halloween Bop!!

To finish our “All About Me” topic, we carried out a fun experiment to find out how good our senses are! Out of our 5 senses, we discovered that our sense of sight was the strongest, although the one we enjoyed testing the most was our sense of taste. We had to try 5 different flavours of crisps... it was a hard job, but someone had to do it!

Out of our 5 senses, we discovered that our sense of sight was the strongest, although the one we enjoyed testing the most was our sense of taste. We had to try 5 different flavours of crisps... it was a hard job, but someone had to do it! 17

As part of our topic”All About Me” we have been learning about our five senses. After learning all about the sense of sight, we worked in pairs to find out how difficult it would be to not have this sense. We were great friends, guiding and supporting each other!

P6 had a fabulous morning at Mount Stewart! After a lovely break in the tea rooms, we went exploring and talked about all the signs of autumn that we could see!

As part of our 'World Around Us' topic work, P6 have been learning all about the different seasons and how to recognise them!
