Killard House Staff Toilet Roll Challenge 2020

Morning boys. Wish I could speak to you all in person to see how you all are. This would normally be our last day at school before the Easter holidays and I know that you have already been off , but here are some fun things for you to try.

Harry and I have been doing the Joe Wickes exercise video each day. One of us is better at it than the other , but I thought I might let you see how we do it and give you a laugh.

Here is a challenge for you. Why dont you plan a picnic for Easter? You could have it inside or outside. Write your menu. Decorate it. Make invitations for your family and invite them to it.

You could try making some sandwiches yourself -put jam on them or peanut butter or chocolate spread. You could have crackers and cheese. I am going to put some recipes on and you might be able to make some of them.

Here are some nice ideas for Easter Art. You could use some of them to decorate your menu. You could make nice Easter cards with some of the designs or you could use some of the ideas to make invitations to your picnic. Dont forget to take photos of anything you do or you could make a diary and draw/write what you have done. I would love to see everything when we get back to school.

Monday 30th March

Good morning boys :) Hope you are all working hard and trying to do alittle bit of your school work every day. When we get back to school i want to see how well you have remembered all your words, sounds, number work and all those things that you were doing so well at.

Grown-ups just remember that doing just a little each day can really help,. Even if you haven't got access to aprinter I am trying to give you a mixture of written, oral physical activities that you might be able to adapt?

HANDWRITING

- Using scissors really helps with fine-motor skills. If you have a printer go to www.dltk-kids and you can print off pages to help with lines to cut along. If you dont you could just draw straight/wavy/zig-zag lines for your child to follow or cut around pictures of objects in a magazine or catalogue.

-Our letter to practise this week is {s}. Dont forget about singing the alphabet song. Why not trying writing this silly sentence with all these s words?

"Susie sells sea shells on the sea shore."

Or just practise writing {s} lots of times. If you have an ipad a nice app for letter writing practice is "Writing Wizard"

www.ictgames has some useful interactive games which help with letter identification.

- Have a look on Youtube  "Words and Pictures letter S" which goes through forming the letter (where to start it etc).

PHONICS

- Here are the sounds that we have now covered so far in class

     s a t p i n m o c k f r u d h g b j e v x l

- can you find any words beginning with those sounds eg s for Sunday, a for apple etc?

- Can you make any 3 letter words with these sounds eg get, man, tin etc?

- Grown-ups if someone gets stuck give a choice of 2 things eg which one begins with p goat or pig?

- We often play this as an "I Spy" game taking turns at choosing and guessing.

- What about some of those Dr Seuss rhyming words. Try making a list of all the words that end the same eg words that end in (at) like, fat, mat, cat. Can you write them? Can you make a silly sentence with them? What about being an author and making your own Dr Seuss books, writing the words and drawing the pictures?

www.starfall.com has some nice phonics activities that the boys might enjoy doing as well as sheets that you can print off if you are able?

READING

- Keep up the reading books together, pick favourite books, discuss what happens in the story, what might come next?

- There are lots of Fairy Tales which you can watch on You Tube. Why not draw the characters in the story, cut them out stivk onto a lolly stick or a bit of cardboard and make your own puppet show to retell the story? Tou could make your own Fairy Story book of you favourite story?

- Try www.storylineonline.net to help read stories at various levels of ability.

- Remember all those tricky words that are in sentences but hard to sound out (high frequency words)

   www.senteacher.org

- Listen to free audio books on www.worldofdavidwalliams.com/elevenses

NUMERACY

- Keep up all the good work with naming and identifying 2d and 3d shapes. Try this website to help you try to remember the names www.bbc.co.ukbitesize/topic2dand3d shapes

- To help with number work go onto this website and you will find lots of different games for all abilities www.education.com/gamesnumbers

- But dont forget that you can always practise counting anything, Lego, crayons, knives and forks and dont forget to keep practising all those numbers not just doing it all on the computer.

-There is a free website available at the minute that you can sign up to  www.themathsfactor.com

THE WORLD AROUND US

- Watch the You Tube clip about Spring "How do you know it's Spring? Stories for Kids" Watch it a couple of times and see if you can answer these questions about it?

1 Name the 4 seasons in order?

2 What do the farmers do at this time of year?

3 Does the weather get warmer or colder in Spring?

4 What do we call flowers before they grow and open up?

5 What do the birds do?

6 What does it mean if an animal hibernates?

7 What is a baby duck called? A baby sheep? A baby cow? A baby horse?

8 Can you say the name of any spring flower that you know?

Can you find any nice pictures of Spring flowers in a book or on the internet and try drawing them?

WELL-BEING

- Why not have a go at making some "Gloop" -mix a packet of cornflour with water and a little bit of food colouring (very therapeutic and great fun).

- Cut up pictures of faces from catalogues or magazines. Mix up boy/faces and stick together to make funny people.

-Paint fences/walls with big paintbrushes and buckets of water.

-Use  www.dltk-kids and find muffin flower pot crafts to make nice spring pictures.

Gross Motor Skills

- If you look on You Tube - Joe Wickes is putting on great ideas for PE and movement ideas. Even Mrs Vance is doing it!!

- What about running around the garden/outside of your house/up and down stairs and see how long it takes you. Write down each day how long you take. See if you are getting quicker? Dont forget to write those numbers the right way round?

- There are home learning packs at TwinklGo! - there are interactive games, videos, and audio books. Use code UKTWINKLHELPS at www.twinkl.co.uk/offer

HAPPY BIRTHDAY this week to Noel . Hope you have a great birthday and we will have a special party when we are all together again back at school

Keep safe Mrs V xxxxxx

Hi boys. Hope you have managed to look at some of the activities that i have put on line for you. Keep busy and try your best to do a little bit of your school work so that you wont have forgotten lots of things when you come back.

If you have managed to plant a few seeds take some pictures of them growing and i will hopefully get to see some of the things that you have planted.

if you cant take pictures why not draw some instead showing what happens to the seeds as they grow and change.

I have planted some some potatoes and i will let you see what they look like and hopefully i will be able to get to eat them.

Mrs V

Good morning P5! Please find below week 1 of your suggested home learning tasks. I hope you enjoy some of these activities and you are keeping well.

Mrs Brown visited P5 to take our speech group. We completed lots of group tasks and had a lot of fun learning more on how to communicate!

Another busy day for the boys and girls in Killarney. As part of our Shared Education Programme we teamed up with DPS and had a special morning for Sports Relief.

We played all sorts of ball games - rugby, Gaelic Football, and football.

There were all sorts of inflatables to practise all our ball skills and the big boys and girls from St Columbanus were there to help us and show us what to do.

P5 had their own special activities today to mark World Book Day. We dressed up as pirates and played pirate games before hearing a Pirate story.

Then we had a different kind of story where Mrs Vance used glove puppets to tell what happened to the bear who had a big itch.

Mrs Vance then dressed up as The Cat in the Hat to tell some Dr Seuss stories which the class are really enjoying at the minute.

We then played a game where we had to use our imaginations and describe different Fairy Tales. Everyone did a great job as well as having good fun.

We had the most fantastic morning this morning. The school bus took us to Bangor train station where Mr Rogers (Kaylee’s dad) had got us VIP places to be the first passengers on the train in a place to ourselves.

We got off the train at Seahill and walked down to Rockport School. The lovely people down there gave us some lovely treats for our break.

We were able to spend some time playing on the beach on such a beautiful Spring day.

We are all really working very hard at doing our reading activities.  Mrs Vance is delighted with how hard everyone is trying to read their words and all our different books.  Well done P5

HAPPY PANCAKE DAY

We had a great morning of making pancakes, eating them, writing about what we did and then trying to toss them. Without a doubt Mrs Vance was the winner!😁

P5 are learning how to plan their work and then turn their plan into a masterpiece on the computer!

We had a fun time this morning practicing all our bowling skills at Dundonald Icebowl. Everyone played really well and most of us were happy with our scores! :)

As part of our Once Upon A Time topic some of our different members of staff have been coming in to read their favourite stories. Mrs Davey came and told us the story that she loves reading to her girls “The Tiger Who Came To Tea”. Thank you Mrs Davey we all really enjoyed it!
We have been thinking about boys and girls who don’t get some of the things that we do. As a school we pay for a boy and girl to help them attend school. We collected loads of coppers and made a big trail of them around the classroom. There were way too many for us to count. A big thank you for helping us by sending in your spare change for this very worthwhile cause.

P5 got another visit from Baby Cowan for Roots of Empathy. He has grown a little bit since we last saw him and we have noticed him pick up some new life skills during the time we haven't seen him!

P5 brought their favourite books from home and from the school library into class. We talked about our books and told Mrs Vance and the rest of the boys in P5 what we liked about them!

Bradley, Jamie, Christopher and Kai did a good job of using puppets to tell the story of The Three Little Pigs. Some of the boys were playing a shapes game on the Interactive White Board.
We had some friends from Donaghadee Primary in our class today. We all had to introduce ourselves and talk a little bit about ourselves so that we could get to know each other. We then had to try and think about things they like about themselves. We all worked hard and got great answers.
P5 did some amazing Art. We made some Indian Rangoli patterns using coloured salt and our fingers to make designs on pages. Have a look at what they did. They were amazing.

P5 have enjoyed having a new teacher. It’s Baby Cohen and he has came with his mummy, to teach us all about Roots of Empathy. We are learning about how babies change as they get older, and about our feelings.

We have been busy wrapping our Christmas shopping presents that we chose when we went shopping last week. We only had to use about six rolls of sellotape! They are sitting safely below our Christmas tree waiting to go home.

P5 and P6 did some Christmas shopping today. We had written our shopping list, earned our money and practised how we were going to chat to the people working in the shop.
An hour later we were all shopped out and had finally decided on our choices. But you will have to wait until Christmas to see what has been bought!

Dont forget if you are in Bloomfield to support our school and vote for Donaghadeer our reindeer.

We have been working on our Length topic in class. We have been talking about centimetres and metres and practising using rulers to measure things.

As part of our Mighty Me topic we talked about our senses and how much we used them everyday. We put on blindfolds and just used our sense of touch to try and work out what each item was.

Next we used our sense of smell to try and guess what each smell was. Everyone was able to guess vinegar but no-one was able to guess jam!

Halloween fun day! P5 had fun dressing up in costume and enjoyed the Halloween disco with Mr Scates and Mr Jamison.

We have had a bit of a "topsy turvy" day in P5 today. While some people were painting Hallowe'en pictures other people were making Christmas Cards. Don't worry Mrs Vance isn't trying to be organised for Christmas we just want to try and win the school Christmas Card Competition!
We have been learning all about keeping ourselves fit and healthy. We learnt about the foods that we need to eat everyday as well as the foods that we should only have as a treat. We also heard about how important it is to do exercise everyday . Here we are having good fun doing our exercises.
